In Islam, Jumma – that is, Friday – is considered a very special and blessed day. It is the best day of the week and is also called the "Eid of the week." The importance of Jumma is mentioned many times in the Quran and Hadith. For Muslims, this day is a golden opportunity for worship, repentance, and receiving Allah’s mercy.
1. Mention of Jumma in the Quran
There is a whole Surah in the Quran named Surah Al-Jumma. In it, Allah says:
"O you who believe! When the call is proclaimed for the prayer on Friday, hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave off trade. That is better for you if you only knew."
(Surah Al-Jumma: 9)
This verse shows that Friday is specially meant for the worship of Allah, and we should leave worldly tasks and go to the mosque for prayer.
2. Friday prayer is obligatory
Jumma prayer is obligatory for men. It is two rakats offered after the Khutbah (sermon). The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) emphasized the importance of this prayer. A Hadith says:
"Whoever takes a bath on Friday, goes to the mosque, listens to the Khutbah attentively, and offers the prayer, his sins between this Friday and the last are forgiven."
(Sahih Muslim)
3. A special time for accepted prayers
There is a special moment on Jumma when any dua (supplication) made is accepted by Allah. The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
"There is a moment on Friday during which, if any Muslim asks Allah for something, He will definitely grant it."
(Sahih Bukhari)
4. Jumma – The Eid of the Week
The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
"Friday is the best day in the sight of Allah. It was on this day that Adam (peace be upon him) was created, admitted to Paradise, and removed from it."
(Sahih Muslim)
That’s why this day is called the “Eid of the week” for Muslims. On this day, Muslims take a bath, wear clean clothes, apply perfume, and go to the mosque for Jumma prayer.
Conclusion
Jumma is a day to return to Allah, seek forgiveness, and collect blessings. Every Muslim should value this day, not take it lightly, and make the most of it through prayer, Quran recitation, and dua.
